Pesto is a sauce originating in Genoa in the Liguria region of northern Italy. It traditionally consists of crushed garlic, basil, and European pine nuts blended with olive oil, Parmesan cheese, and pecorino cheese. Pesto is commonly used on pasta, spaghetti or lasagne. It can also be used in soups such a Minestrone , with sliced tomatoes and sliced boiled potatoes, with a salad, on pizza, with mussels and clams, shrimps, meats, and as dip.
