The MIERAL “excellence” squab is fed by its parents on peas, beans, and corn for 28 to 32 days. Its flesh is fine and delicate. Unlike other poultry, squabs are to be eaten BEFORE they reach adulthood, while they are still in the nest. Their best quality occurs within 48 hours before they mature. Too early, and they are too fat. Too late, and they fly, and their flesh becomes less tender.
It is therefore essential to observe the nests daily to anticipate fledging. This is only feasible in reasonably sized flocks. The weight of a squab is not linked to its age but to its breed or the intelligence of crossing several breeds with complementary qualities.
